About the Speaker
Matt Beem is President & CEO of Hartsook, a fundraising consulting firm that has helped raise more than $231 billion for non-profits around the world. Matt serves on the advisory board for the Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy at Plymouth University in Plymouth, United Kingdom, sits on the President's Advisory Council of Central Methodist University, Fayette, Missouri, is a fellow of the University of Missouri-Kansas City's (UMKC) Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership and was on the board of trustees at Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa, from 2008-2014, where he served as the Advancement Committee Chair from 2010-2014. He is an Adjunct Professor of Fundraising at Avila University and a featured speaker throughout the United States and abroad. Matt was chosen as one of Kansas City's "40 Under Forty" by Ingram's Magazine in 2008 and was named 2010 Kansas City Fundraiser of the Year by the Mid-America Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Matt is an active volunteer with Boy Scouts of America and served as the Chairman of the Blue Elk District for the Heart of America Council from 2010-2013. He is a featured columnist with The Examiner, Independence, Missouri. He co-authored a chapter in the university-level textbook, "New Strategies for Educational Fundraising" and wrote a chapter in the textbook by Adrian Sargeant and Jen Shang, "Fundraising: Principles and Practices." His most recent publication is Performance-Driven Fundraising: Taking Control of Your Success published by ASR Media. Matt holds a bachelor of journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism, a master of public administration in nonprofit management from UMKC's Bloch School of Management and is a doctoral candidate at UMKC.
